The Final Seconds
There are four seconds on the clock with his team down two, JS24 BoB, the GM who turned the Pipers from a laughing stock to champions in 2 seasons, has the ball at the top of the key. This is a Game 7 championship road game for this team. He’s hit game winners before and won championships, five to be exact…and all with different teams, I might add. He knows what it takes to win, but for some reason this feels different.
Three…He looks at his options and everyone is being covered. He knows he has to take the shot. He wouldn’t have it any other way. Staring him in the face, his only adversaries are time and the man in front of him.
Two… the defender isn’t giving him any space to work as he dribbles to his sweet spot at the elbow of the 3-point line. He knows he’s going to have to rise above his man and make a contested shot – something he’s done many times in the past.
One…He rises above the defender for the game winning shot. The defender’s hands are right in his face. The shot is on line and looks good…
HE MISSES
(Buzzer)
The game is over and JS24 BoB has lost the game for his team.
------------------------------------ I take complete responsibility for the shit my team has taken – missing the draft and being unable to get under the hard cap/losing Barnes (and getting into this situation by taking Thompsons contract and ‘going for it all’ last season).
Not to be overdramatic or anything haha (by the way can I get some PP’s for the above article for if/when I return? lol). And yes, this is what I was writing during the final 30 minutes waiting for PM responses.
Anyways, I leave the team in a much better please than I found it and still I believe one of the most talented teams in the league.

So you quit because you couldn't deal with the hard cap?

So you quit because you couldn't deal with the hard cap? I figured this reaction would be that of the majority. I had an opportunity to get under the hardcap, but it was for a price I wasn't willing to take. I let the team down this entire offseason and with the decisions I made at the deadline. If this were real life, this would be what would happen. I have been getting bored with my team (as GMs who I PM'd towards the deadline will tell you, I was trying to make deals because I was bored). This just seems like a natural breaking point. This is still one of the best teams in the league IMO, so it can now have a GM who will dedicate more time to it.

Im a huge fan of the gm.. leaving at this point imo is still lame and sets a bad tone.. I know all about being bored and trying to make deals its tough in the league right now though.. Its up to Bob though in the end if hes willing to do the work (and a lot of times in this situation you end up losing out in deals) or not.. Losing barnes for nothing at all though doesnt help this team, nor leave it in a better position. Sure the teams a ton better than its been in years past but is it better now then it was last year? no..

I offered CLiff Alexander for Barnes. Don't understand why that deal wasn't accepted. Could have made one more run and then rebuilt. I agree with Prez. This is one of the best, if not the best, GMs in league history, and leaving like this isn't good for the Pipers or the league. The league is better with Bob in it. The Pipers would have been better if any move was made. Have to ask, would he have quit if one of his deals was accepted to get under? He was offering around deals.

Great question.. and i agree would a deal of barnes for alexander been better than losing barnes for nothing? definatly imo, now one of the best sfs in the league hits FA and the pipers have nothing to show for it, to top it off we now have a vacancy with FA two days away, not leaving the team better now they wont be able to sign guys and lose barnes.. yuck

I'll be honest, if one of my deals was accepted, I would not have quit. But I would have likely coasted for a few seasons being bored. With work responsibilities increasing, it just seems like the best time to break. And Prez is right, I could've/should've taken a deal (maybe the Cliff Alexander deal), which would be better than losing Barnes for nothing, but it didn't happen. Maybe it my pride that wouldn't let me accept being lowballed. Hopefully I won't be known as a quitter or someone unwilling to take the challenge, but maybe I will be. It is what it is. I've enjoyed my time in the league and wish the incoming GM the best.

You coasting would definatly be the preferred option imo.. not having a gm right as FA hits , losing barnes, the way your leaving plain stinks and hurts my feelings

I think when you're over the cap like that and need to get under quickly you're going to lose the deal. That's one of the sacrifices you know you're going to have to make when you load up with big contracts like that "to go for it". Accepting a trade that you lose, however, is the lesser of two evils. Pride shouldn't be a factor. The league would have known that you made the deal to get under, not because you thought it was a good trade. And here I'm not just talking to Pitt, but to any GM that gets in this situation in the future.
And btw, I'm pissed that the GM is leaving, especially like this--ok, no pissed, but I rather have him stay. I'm not pissed because he didn't take my trade. Looking at the league's salary cap situation, I've got a pretty good shot at landing Barnes for free and still having Cliff.

Sucks to hear you are leaving, you did a great job with what was given to you early on. Hope to see you back soon

Yeah you really shouldn't leave like this dude. You've done too much in this league to just stop for this. Basically what I'm saying is keep your ass here and don't walk away. None of us feel like watching your team get decimated by some n00b

I think when you're over the cap like that and need to get under quickly you're going to lose the deal. I would have done the same thing the Pipers did. No way I deal Barnes for Alexander even if I chance losing Barnes for nothing.

No way I deal Barnes for Alexander even if I chance losing Barnes for nothing. Very logical. If you understand how free agency works (players almost always take the highest year 1 salary they can get), if I don't get Mikan, I'll get Barnes 97 times out of 100. Gotta look at the big picture sometimes. As I said, I'm happy he didn't take the deal. I just wanted him to stay.
