Well, there are salary cap rules, you see. Seeing as that my team is well over the salary cap, I cannot simply take back this player in a sign-and-trade type deal without giving him the same amount of salary back - within 15%.

Now, if he wants no part of this player and is just going to let him leave as a FA, then I figured, why wouldn't he try to get something out of the deal, even if it's just a 2nd rd pick or something of that nature.

Now, if he does see something that interests him, like said 2nd rd pick, or another player, then this lets him know I'm willing to deal as well and we should talk.

If he doesn't have any interest, then he can reply that he isn't interested, or he could simply ignore my post...

Funny how things work out. THe year i'm going to be under the soft cap is the year someone wants to resign with me.
