Just like the ABA vs NBA concept 18 seasons ago we felt it was time to add more to what is already a great concept.
Thus starting in the 1993 season we will be introducing the ABA vs NBA developmental league consisting of D-League teams (NBA) vs European Teams (ABA).
Below are the rules currently for that league. Things are still in the working stages, rosters for euro teams are done, and d-league teams already will have there coresponding NBA teams. ABA/ Euro affilaites will follow. I'll go more into detail how the league works as we go thru this season. Below is the basic outline and rules for how it will work. The Pistons GM has agreed to run the league overall and I feel he'll do a great job as an already dedicated GM here.
1: Only players on rookie contracts can be sent to the developmental league. Players can only be called up ONCE after being put in the dleague (ie once you call them up you cannot put them back down again)
2: Players picked in the lotto are NOT allowed to be sent to the developmental league
3: A Max of 5 players are allowed in the developmental league at one time
4: You may call up or down players at two times during the year. One is at the all star break after the developmental league has taken place. The second is during the offseason after the TC but prior to the Pre-season. That means prior to FA you cannot send players down to save cap, get under the hard cap , etc etc we close this loophole a bit.
5: Any developmental league non-roster player that you wish to "claim" can be done so at a cost of 100 ppts for the first team. In case multiple teams claim the same player the cost goes up 100pts for each team after... Only the team that gets the player will lose ppts though. The contract of that player will transfer from the developmental league will be included in that claim, that player must also be called up to the main roster.
6: The developmental league "season" will be one sim that takes place at the regular seasons all star break. You have until the aba vs nba all star break to put in a depth chart for that developmental league season. I expect each team to put one in by that time. (shouldnt be hard considering you'll have like 2 weeks to post one)
7: You have until the end of your players rookie contract to call that player up to the regular league. If he's not called up by the end of his contract that player becomes a FA.
8: Players "Rights" can be traded in the AVN regular league. Matching contracts not needed.
9: Only "rights" of players can be traded.. there are no trading of picks, other players etc in the developmental league.
10: Draft and FA in the Developmental league will be done CPU style, in other words the moderators of the league will handle it.
11. The LEAGUE MVP each season and all LEAGUE FIRST TEAM players MUST be called up to the AVN roster and cannot go back to the Dleague. You have until the pre-season the following year to call that player up.
At the end of each developmental league season "rewards" can be earned by players in the league. Here is the breakdown.
*Winning team gets 50 ppts
*The League MVP gets 1 free upgrade
*The Playoff MVP gets 5 free pts to upgrade in a category of his choosing (strength, quickness, jumping not allowed)
*Defensive Player Of The Year +2 extra defensive points in addition to first team points
*Rookie of the Year +2 extra potential points in addition to 1st team rookie points
*6th man of the year +3 free pts to upgrade in a category of his choosing (strength, quickness, jumping not allowed)
*All league first team gets 8 free pts to upgrade in a category of his choosing (strength, quickness, jumping not allowed). 2nd team gets 6 free pts, 3rd team gets 4. Point totals here subject to change.
*All defensive first team gets 6 free pts to ugrade in DEFENSE category's only. 2nd team 4, 3rd team 2.
* All Rookie first team gets 8 potential points added to his potential. All Rookie 2nd team gets 4 potential points added to his potential.
